Winter Trifecta: One Room and Three Cozy Designs
Eat, Sleep and Ski-if you’re a winter sport enthusiast, why not tout it?
Winter Greetings from Smoothyblues Online Interiors!
This is a post for the FUN, the FICKLE and the FRUGAL! So, what’s happening here is this: I grabbed a previously designed family room and put it to the Trifecta design challenge.
Yes, it’s true…I love infusing color into many of my designs, but I also love designing with a neutral palette for a couple of reasons.
First…
A neutral room can be changed up easily without it costing an arm and a leg. Let’s face it…we all occasionally grow bored of the same surroundings. If you start out with a few quality, versatile pieces, you’ll find yourself good to go with swapping out a few things like art, accessories, some fun ottomans and natural, seasonal foliage. That’s all I’ve done to achieve these three different looks, each for under $1000!
Caramel and Cream-a toasty gathering spot for you and your family!
Second…
A neutral palette provides a perfect backdrop for incorporating elements of nature, my favorite interior design additive. I often go to light shades of blue for an accent color in a neutral room with large windows and natural views of trees and mountains. Why? It is my belief that creams, grays, sky blues and natural woodtone colors collectively allow the outside views to become another focal point. With the absence of bold colors and patterns, nature sees nothing standing in her way, leaving her feeling free to come inside. The result-a truly beautiful and naturally calming atmosphere like no other, a room to be thoroughly enjoyed from season to season.
New Holiday Plaid- Shira, the family dog, says, “the only things missing are you and CHEESE”!
YAY…it’s finally time to flaunt my addiction to plaid!
I hand selected a multi-colored Stewart plaid especially for this room in order to add an extra punch of MERRY to the holidays. All the colors-red, gold, green and blue rejoice in harmony with pillows, art, ottomans, twinkle lights and the bountiful greens. Up next…more warm and cozy winter design injectables!
Unveil your unique winter scene with more furs, chunky textures, plaids, nature prints and fabrics effortlessly. For Pete’s sake, don’t forget the candles…lots of them! Also, don’t be afraid to keep those twinkle lights atwinkling along with layering up the rugs and pillows for extra cozy comfort. Adding in branches, cones, logs, pines and, of course, plaid flannel sheets will help you embrace the long and chilly season with both grace and style.

December - Collective Soul
As always…GENRE has a tune that’s been the mastermind behind the featured design topic. This one relates to December, in particular. I’m no Mikaela Shiffrin, but this is the tune I’ll choose for on top of the mountain. If you think about it too much, you may never tackle those treacherous steeps to finally get to those long sweeping, fluffy turns. So, let’s DO THIS this winter…go BOLD and BEAUTIFUL with design advice from Smoothyblues Online Interiors!
